Our programs deliver results for cancer patients and contribute to enhancing freedom and prosperity.
Collaborative partnership. Resourcefulness. A willingness to improve. Results. These are the attributes we value most in the people and projects we fund.
We prefer time-limited projects with a high probability for sustainable, transformative results on the individual and/or societal level. World-changing ideas can occur at any time, so we accept letters of intent from highly qualified and dedicated institutions all year round. Additionally, we actively partner with like-minded organizations to take on and accelerate large, critical topics together.
We encourage organizations to develop a broad base of support for their proposed projects or initiatives. We never provide 100% of the support required for any given project. Instead, we maintain the freedom to fund an amount other than the one requested by the applicant, or propose a conditional approval until the applicant finds a matching funder.
Our peer-review process is rigorous, and every grant application is reviewed by at least two highly qualified clinical experts, a biostatistician, and a patient advocate.
Grant reviewers follow a standard set of evaluation criteria to ensure that only projects with the highest impact and feasibility are recommended to the foundation's board of directors. Each project is assessed in the context of the work proposed, and only projects aligned with the objectives of our funding programs are approved for funding.
There are certain causes or financial needs which our foundation will not cover. Some examples include but are not limited to direct donations or grants to individuals, capital investments for infrastructure, and basic cancer research studies.
Grant approvals and rejections are communicated to the grantee in writing. The approval of funds is outlined in a written agreement in which milestones are clearly defined, and grantees are required to deliver progress reports on a scheduled basis.
Foundation experts perform a preliminary review of the letter of intent in order to assess applicant credibility, determine project feasibility, and ensure alignment with our mission.
Promising proposals are invited to submit a full application. Once invited, the applicant can download the application template in ProposalCentral.
All applications are evaluated by the specific program's Grant Review Committee. Individual information will be sought via email or telephone call as necessary.
When a program satisfies all criteria and has no major shortcomings, it is proposed to the Foundation Board of Directors for funding approval. The Board of Directors will decide at its discretion if the grant will be funded or not. Board Meetings are held three times per year.
The overall impact for a funded project is its likelihood to have a sustained, powerful influence on the field involved.
While each of our grant programs has its specific focus, we operate with a firm belief that maximum impact on a transformative scale is achieved through collaborative, innovative funding models.
The approval of funds is based on the applicant's assertion to comply with agreed upon milestones and alignment with other filters, including potential synergies with other grantees. As we may not provide 100% of the support required for any given project, to better encourage organizations in developing a broader base of support for their proposed projects or initiatives, we could, in our capacities, make, challenge, or match grants as deemed appropriate. All approvals and decisions will be communicated to the grantee in writing.
