World Cancer Day – Empowering Meaningful Patient Involvement at Scale
February 4, 2026
Celebrating World Cancer Day, the Rising Tide Foundation for Clinical Cancer Research is proud to support EUPATI in developing an online training platform designed to equip professionals with the skills needed to embed meaningful patient involvement in clinical development.
EUPATI, the European Patients’ Academy on Therapeutic Innovation, is an international non-profit organisation that provides education and resources to empower patients to actively and meaningfully participate in medicines research and development. Since 2019, the EUPATI Learning Lab has trained more than 1,650 professionals through its Fundamentals and Essentials programmes. Yet demand continues to outpace access, with in‑person and live workshops limited by size, logistics, and cost. Many motivated people working —across academia, industry, and clinical research—have been left without structured learning opportunities.
This new online EUPATI Learning Lab hub will change that. Over the next three years, EUPATI will build a sustainable, accessible reference platform where professionals can:
- access high‑quality learning content,
- connect and exchange with peers,
- engage through interactive tools, workshops, and expert interviews, and
- work toward certification in patient involvement in clinical development.
By enabling multilingual content, the platform will also extend its reach globally—welcoming new audiences and strengthening capacity across regions.
This project strongly reflects the Rising Tide Foundation’s mission. Patients will act as co-project leads, playing active roles in governance, delivery, and communication—ensuring that lived experience and expertise are embedded at every level. This approach builds on EUPATI’s long-standing commitment to co-designing and delivering education with patients, not just for them.
As Maria Dutarte, Executive Director of EUPATI, shared:
“We are truly grateful for this support and excited to launch the building of this new online space for learning and connecting for professionals in clinical research. This reference hub will contribute to increasing knowledge about meaningful ways to include patients in this area and create connections among researchers, industry representatives, clinical research staff and other stakeholders working on patient involvement in this field.”
We look forward to seeing how the EUPATI Learning Lab Hub helps advance more inclusive, collaborative, and patient‑centred clinical research worldwide
