Free Speech Without Borders: Schweizer Monat’s Dossier Now in English
March 26, 2026
We are pleased to announce that Schweizer Monat, a leading Swiss magazine that has championed classical liberal principles since 1921, has released the English version of its landmark dossier “Freedom of Expression”. Originally published in German, this 32-page publication is now accessible to a global audience, providing a robust defense of free speech at a time when it is increasingly under fire.
The dossier brings together high-profile writers and defenders of liberty to address the growing culture of self-censorship. The English dossier features provocative insights from international experts, including:
- Harvey Silverglate on why “useful information” can be found even in speech many find offensive.
- Natalie Alkiviadou on the effectiveness of “counter-speech” over digital censorship.
- Hamed Abdel-Samad on why “language policing” ultimately harms the minorities it claims to protect.
This project is supported by the Rising Tide Foundation under our ‘Free Speech’ focus area, which aims to support projects that defend the right to free speech and promote a culture that encourages freedom of expression.
In addition to publishing the dossier, Schweizer Monat editor Giuseppe Gracia recently conducted an in-depth interview with another esteemed grantee of the Rising Tide Foundation: Claire Fox (Baroness Fox of Buckley), founder of the Academy of Ideas.
In this compelling discussion, titled “Free Speech on Life Support,” Fox analyzes the current cultural climate of free inquiry. In the interview, she warns that cancel culture has had a perverse impact on our society and that leaders must stand up to defend Enlightenment principles. Fox also critiques the trend of pathologizing uncomfortable ideas, noting that true intellectual growth requires the resilience to engage with views we do not share.
The interview serves as a perfect companion to the dossier, embodying the spirit of our ‘Free Speech’ focus area. To learn more, check out the video here:
